Patients who have had a heart attack have a great risk of developing depression. Between 15% and 20% get a depression after a heart attack.

Depression can prolong and complicate the course of the heart disease. It is therefore important that you get treated for your depression. The treatment of such a depression causes you to recover more easily and you have a greater chance of avoiding heart problems.

Stroke
A stroke is one of the most common causes of death in the western world. Prevention and the speedy commencement of treatment have helped more people to survive a stroke. But many have prolonged mental and physical after-effects from a stroke. Approximately 35% will develop a depression after a stroke.

If you develop a psychiatric disease after a stroke, your chances of rehabilitation will unfortunately be reduced. You will be functioning less well physically and socially.

Depressions after a stroke unfortunately have a tendency to be prolonged.
