| Exact
cause is not known. It appears
to be multi factorial. Schizophrenia
may occur due to genetic factors,
psychological factors , personality
factors, neuro-developmental
factors such as complications
during pregnancy and birth
or neurotransmitter disturbances
in the brain.

| The
most common age for developing
symptoms is between the ages
of 18 and 25. Both males &
females are equally affected
but peak age of onsetdiffers
in both sexes. (In females
15-25 years, In males 25 –
35 years).
Research does show, however,
that schizophrenia does show
up in childhood, but only
2 percent of individuals with
schizophrenia had their onset
in childhood.
